Meet VFSA
Our Story
A year ago, Virginia Fentanyl & Substance Awareness was born out of a heartfelt need to support parents navigating the heart-wrenching journey of a loved one's substance use. What began as a quest for connection quickly revealed a profound need within the community. It became evident that many parents were facing these battles alone, without the necessary support or resources.
The turning point came during a 28-day prayer group at church. It was there that a powerful calling to take action was felt. Standing by as fentanyl claimed the lives of so many and threatened the next generation was no longer an option. Something had to change.
Out of this urgency, Virginia Fentanyl & Substance Awareness was established. Our mission is to provide a supportive community and essential resources for parents navigating their child's substance use disorder and mental health issues. This initiative is deeply rooted in personal experience. For nine years, feelings of being alone, judged, and helpless were ever-present while navigating a daughter's struggles. The trauma reached a peak last summer when she was placed on cardiac watch due to a fentanyl overdose.
This organization ensures that no parent has to face these challenges without support. The pain, fear, and isolation are understood. We offer hope, community, and the resources needed to navigate this difficult journey. Together, a difference can be made, and future generations can be protected.
With heartfelt commitment,
Karleen Wolanin & the Virginia Fentanyl & Substance Awareness team
